If we are moving toward single assessments, then the highest standards should be applied regardless of federal or provincial responsibility or jurisdiction. The higher of the two standards of rigour, transparency and accountability should apply. Streamlining makes sense but this process must not become a way to make shortcuts or workarounds or to circumvent standards or processes. It is crucial that public participation and Indigenous participation be supported and encouraged regardless of jurisdiction This should include providing time, information and financial support particularly when projects will affect current and future habitats, arable land, wildlife, water (fresh and salt)
